The Leader started as a facebook page over five years when two Dayton women, Kendra Breitsprecher and Kelli Bloomquist, decided Dayton deserved a true community newspaper--one that focused on the things that are important to Dayton residents like education and small town life. The underlying values of the Leader are community, family, and faith.
Starting in September, 2013, Kendra decided to defy the popular sentiment that "print is dead" and head to the presses. Old-fashioned journalism with a high-tech twist: that's the motto.
July 2, 2018, the Leader decided to defy another popular sentiment: that small town downtowns are dead. They opened a storefront business at 37 South Main, Dayton , that not only held the Leader offices, but also housed a small boutique.
